001. IN GENERAL. This is an independent, semi-private, and selective roleplaying blog for Sebastian Vael, of Dragon Age II. I’ve been writing Seb on and off for quite a few years now, but have reestablished this blog as of December 2024. I am semi-private in that I generally will only roleplay or plot with mutuals, but I make exceptions as the case may be. 002. ON INTERPRETATION. I have marked this blog as canon-divergent solely because this is my interpretation of the character, and I play a little loose with how he was established. As such, certain behaviors, ideals, and personality traits may differ from the character written by Bioware, and verses I have established may deviate from the canon timeline and decisions. Verses that deviate from the canon timeline will be noted in that specific verse. 003. ON CONTENT Due to the nature of Dragon Age, this blog will contain NSFW themes and discussions of violence. Certain parts of Sebastian’s background specifically will have topics of trauma, death, and manipulation/abuse. All posts will be tagged with the “Trigger TW” format for easy blocking. I must note now this blog is 21+. I will not write with minors or anyone under the age of 21, and if I cannot find your age easily on your blog, I will soft/hard block as necessary. This is in part because I am uncomfortable with writing with people under the age of drinking, and I want to protect my space as well as protect minors from reading certain topics.If you post anything racist/sexist/ableist/homophobic or other hateful content, I will be blocking you. I'm too old for drama, and this is and will always be a safe space.
004. ON THREADS I am a bit of a peepaw when it comes to tumblr. I do minimal formatting on my posts and do not expect others to format theirs. We’re all here to have fun; I just need to be able to read what you’ve written. I tend to work with para threads more than one-liners because it gives me a little more wiggle room to work with. I will try to match my partner in length, but sometimes it’s just not there. I don’t have many threads going at once to keep things in order; If I need to drop a thread, I will always send a message first. 005. ON REPLY TIMES I will warn now I am kind of an erratic replier. I am the friend who is either triple texting or it takes 3 - 5 business days. I will do my best to let my writing partner's know ahead of time if there will be a delay, but I never mind a message or DM on discord checking in if it's been a few days without a response. I appreciate everyone's patience; balancing school, work, and free time is not for the weak LMFAO. 006. ON EXCLUSIVITY, MAINS, AND BIAS I love to write with people, even if I already follow other blogs of that character. I find everyone brings a different look to a character I've never seen before. All of that to say I do NOT do exclusives. Nor do I expect people to pick me as an exclusive. I do have my biases, one day I'll throw together a mains page on the carrd to shout out my pookies.Essentially, we can all roleplay and play different experiences between characters, even if I'm writing with a different blog with the muse. Don't make it weirdUPDATE: out of respect for the effort both myself and my writing partners put into lore crafting, i will not ship with more than TWO of the same canon character. I'm more lenient with player characters and original characters.
004. ON SHIPPING I am aware that canonically, Sebastian is a chaste character. His struggle with his sexuality and desire is a topic I touch upon frequently. While that is not an invitation to auto-ship or only want to look at ship this, I do want to say the door is open to talk about ships / romantic interactions between our characters. Give me all your blorbos, I want to write aggressive pining all the time. When it comes to more NSFW topics, they will be tagged and put under a read more, and I am generally iffy on where I write smut. 9/10 i operate on fade-to-black, but I have been easily swayed to write smut. 005. ON TRIGGERS Personally, I do not have any triggers, but I will do my best to make sure everything I write that encroaches sensitive topics will be tagged accordingly. - Physical Fitness — Sebastian maintains a certain level of fitness similar to parkour artists. He is flexible, able to run, and can scale buildings (for the most part)
- Knowledge -- Sebastian's upbringing as a prince and his voracious hunger for knowledge has earned him learning a little bit about most customs in Thedas, though his knowledge is primarily in areas that worship Andraste. He is also vaguely familiar with the Orlesian Game, so he personally is not one for subterfuge.
ON THE ELVES Sebastian is largely unaware of what occurs in the alienages - a downside of his self-indulgent lifestyle as a prince. He was raised at the top of Starkhaven's food chain and had only thought of himself in this time there. Through speaking with elven characters, he approaches the topic with surprise and genuine anger at how they have been failed - not only by society as a whole, but specifically by the Chantry as well. He makes an oath to help the alienages when he returns home, and in verses where he has assumed the throne, progress is being made
ON THE CHANTRY Sebastian is, at first, largely defensive and reactionary toward any criticism against the Chantry. At his lowest, they offered him purpose and succor, and he has been determined to pay them back through actions. That is not to say he is not aware of their failings, and tries to be more open minded, especially in later acts of Dragon Age II and any verse past that time period.
ON MAGES He does not know much about the Circle, or the mistreatment of mages. An idealistic man, he does not believe that the Templars or the Circle as a whole could be capable of injustice as gruesome as what occurs behind closed doors. That does NOT mean he is incapable of seeing their faults, he just needs to be given the space for healthy discussion.
ON SEXUALITY Sebastian is, as I write him, a repressed bisexual man. He had his fun in his younger years whoring around with Starkhaven's nobility, but his attraction to men was something he has always struggled with. His chaste oath to the Maker is also something he struggles with a great deal. Sex was a way he connected to people in a way that made him feel like he mattered. While the Circle has given him purpose, and he has found peace devoting himself to the Maker, sometimes he craves that connection with another person again.
In all my writing, unless specifically plotted otherwise, Sebastian defaults to a RIVALRY relationship with Hawke. I find it pivotal for my characterization that he choose the crown over the chantry, as it shapes my meta on his views of faith and guilt following the chantry explosion.

The Heir, the Spare, and the one they Regret. The youngest Vael son was never one for rules. With the burden of the family on his brothers, Sebastian was little more than an after thought in his younger years, and a blighted problem as he got older. Suffocating under the shadows of his brother's successes and his family name, Sebastian rebelled recklessly. There is a thrill in scaling the glimmering buildings of Starkhaven, a rush in taking that leap.

Blessed are they who stand before The corrupt and the wicked and do not falter. Fiercly loyal and wracked with grief, Sebastian finds himself yet again at a crossroads. This time, the choice of what happens to his future is his to make. Pledging his bow and his loyal to Hawke and their cause, Sebastian works to avenge the death of his family.
The exiled prince now must make a choice: what matters to him more, his Oath or his Blood?
(Taking place throughout Dragon Age II, Sebastian is available as a companion and can be spotted either in the Chantry or assisting refugees by bringing them food in Darktown)

They will know the fury and might of Starkhaven. He can still smell the sickly-sweet smell of burning flesh, see the sky glow crimson when he closes his eyes. Years ago, the Kirkwall Chantry seemed a true extension of the Maker; tall, reaching to the sky as a beacon for the faithful. Here you will find purpose, here you will feel the weight of Andraste's sacrifice.
He returns home to make good on his word, tempering the rage in his heart and channeling it to helping the victims. Leading, he finds, comes easy to him. Uncontested for the throne, Sebastian makes quick work sending aid to Kirkwall. He will be the hand that provides, planting the seed for his true goal: annexation of Kirkwall.
(Sebastian can be found making trips between Kirkwall and Starkhaven or making the pilgrimage to Skyhold. He comes mainly to offer Starkhaven's loyalty and aid to the Inquisition, and can be spotted and interacted with at the Winter Palace.)

In their blood the Maker's will is written. To this day, he is not sure what drove him to Haven. Call it an invested interest in the Mage/Templar conflict, call it a pilgrimage to holy ground, or even the Maker’s will. Impulsivity is truth, a gut feeling that brought the exiled prince to those lofty stairs. Existing, even for a moment, where Andraste rested was a honor.

You who have followed me into the heart of evil.. A blight like never before seen. For all his doubt, Sebastian proves a capable leader, and Starkhaven spearheads the efforts to save the Free Marches. Annexing Kirkwall and its remaining forces, he turns his attention to holding the line, doing all he can to protect those that still remain. Andraste too, faced insurmountable odds with the Maker by her side; all he has to do is hold on to faith.
Against all advisement, he is often seen weaving through war camps and fighting alongside others on the front line. The people must know that their Prince is willing to die for everyone, from the richest man to the poorest beggar, and all those oppressed. This is his calling.
(Sebastian can be found in the Free Marches, and regardless of the state of the Inquisition, he maintains contact with the Inquisitor to coordinates efforts in southern Thedas)

I sought the Lord, and He heard me, And delivered me from all my fears. Raised in a home of modest wealth, Sebastian was a young man who seemingly had it all. He drowned his insecurities and self-loathing in whatever he could find, be it liquor or a pretty face he would forget by morning; nothing satiated his need to matter until he gave himself to faith. Through selfless acts and helping those in need, Sebastian found what he was destined to do
A part of him still craves the RUSH
(This is a catchall verse for fandoms outside of Dragon Age, though I’ve found it fits western or noir themes the easiest. In this, Sebastian is a brother of a small diocese. In vampire / supernatural universes, he can be recruited to help investigate matters of an occult nature or to assist anyone who comes through those doors).
